From the streets to the classroom, from waste to innovation, from scraps to robotics. Débora Garofalo is the coordinator of the Connecting Knowledge Center in São Paulo and shows her students that it is possible to recycle and make prototypes of toy cars and robots with trash taken out of the streets in the state capital.
The Projeto Robótica com Sucata (Junk Robotics) helps foster sustainability and creativity among the school community. The idea has already impacted over 2,000 students. This February it arrives at the Global Teacher Prize making Debora one of the 2019 Top 10 best Teachers in the world. The award is organized by the Varkey Foundation and offered to innovative educators and is a great honor as it is highest award given to an educator in the world. Gratulations, Debora!
